Women’s
World Cup and ACLs
Hi Everyone! So the WC starts next
Tuesday. Although the games will unfortunately be aired during
the morning hours hopefully the dedicated fans will tune in.
I will be acting as the US Insider working from Bristol along
with Julie Foudy, Rob Stone and Tony DiCicco. The first game
begins 9/11 at 5 a.m. on ESPN 2 against N. Korea. Followed
by the Sweden game on ESPN at 5 a.m on 9/14 and the Nigeria
game for all you who want to sleep a few extra hours will
air on ESPN at 8 a.m on 9/18.
Of course I wish that I were in China
along with my teammates and on the field but this is second
best. Hopefully the US will take care of buisness and I will
join them for the Olympics next year in Bejing. The knee is
coming along great. Just rehabbing and trying to get my fitness
base back so I can be ready for camp in January. I have recieved
a lot of emails asking advice on how to recover or prevent
future acl injuries. I don't have a solution unfortunately.
This is my first time with this injury and hopefully my last.
It doesn't appear that there is really much you can do to
prevent this injury especially in females which it happens
so often. I always thought I would be the last athlete to
sustain this type of an injury based on my body type. I thought
my quads and hamstrings were well proportioned and relatively
strong so even I have no idea as to why it happened and neither
do the Doctors. There are so many studies out there and the
only postive is the recovery time is twice as fast today.
I honestly just feel like all you can do is have a postive
attitude, do as much rehab as possible and don't rush it which
can cause set backs. Wish I had a better answer.
Anyway
just enjoying a few days before heading to Bristol for the
rest of the month. I will try to blog soon! Talk soon. GO
USA!
